Case Studies Number Six--yahoo.com:Navigation

There are two navigation systems on the home page and links in the navigation are labeled very clear. The secondary navigation looks more prominent than the primary one because it has symbols decorations before links and textured background. Compared to the secondary, the primary navigation looks a little planar.

When I visit other pages, both primary and secondary navigation systems disappear. However, there are other navigation systems appear according to the page content (links that relate to the page information). I can tell they are navigation systems because of their position, look and labels.

Once I click on links, the look of them change. I think they are designed in this way so that users can know which section they are in or which clicks they visit.

I always know which sections I am by looking at the yahoo logo. For instance, if I am in the game section, the logo will be "Yahoo! Games". Other pages such as news use the same design principle. Furthermore, going back to the home page is not a hard thing because yahoo.com provides users a link (labeled as yahoo!) that enables them to go back to the index any time.
