Case Studies Number Two--ebay.com::Navigation

Three navigation systems are on the home page:
the primary navigation

The secondary navigation

I think the groups make sense and I really like how ebay uses simple wording for labeling each group of products in the navigation systems.

There is a hierarchy among the navigation systems. They are not distinguished by colors, but by contents and position. The primary navigation is placed at the top of the page over other navigations since its contents are the first things that ebay users would want to know.

The navigations do not disappear as they stay consistent on each page. However, other navigations appear as I visit different levels of the site. For instance, when I go to the "show items" page, there is a side navigation on the left side of the page. I can tell it is a navigation since it has things like "back to all options" or "brand new" / "like new" and etc.

The look of links changes when I click one of them on the navigations. It indicates to me that I am on the page of the link I just clicked.

I always know where I am by looking at the top location bar(See below for example)

and how to go back to the home page by either click the ebay logo or the "home" label in the location navigation system.
