Case Studies Number Four--amazon.com:Architecture

There is no site map link available on amazon.com, but a directory of all stores are provided. The site does not appear to have a very deep architecture according to the directory.

The architecture is not flat and as I visit different pages, additional side navigation systems appear. I do not think it is a bad thing because the additional navigation gives me more detailed categories about certain sections. For instance, if I click "computers & add-ons", the side navigation categorizes products into department, brand, shipping options and so on. It helps me to find products in a certain range which saves my browsing time.
