Case Studies Number Two--ebay.com:Iconography/Imagery

I think images and photos attract customers in some sense, but ebay uses imagery in an unwised way to organize and layout them.

It depends on which page I visit for me to decide whether I would like to see more images or photos of products. I don't want to see too many imagery on products' list (a thumbnail is good enough) unless I click on a specific product. Once I get into the product page, I want to detailed photos of the product.

There are some symbols used on ebay and it takes me a little bit of time to figure out what their meanings are. Like the one on the home page (golf with a tote bag), I did not know what they meant until I saw the label on the side of them saying "free shipping...better deal".
